Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can one get The CAB and what will it cost?

You can get The CAB by subscribing at the Registration Form. Once you subscribe, we will send you a mail confirming your subscription and to verify your e-mail ID.

As for cost, The CAB is a free e-mail service. All it will cost you is the time you need to subscribe to the newsletter and download it.

2. What do I need to access The CAB?

If you can access the Internet and have an e-mail account, you can receive The CAB. There is no special software or hardware required.

3. What is the frequency of this newsletter?

The CAB will be sent to your mailbox once every fortnight. The frequency could change in the future, depending on your feedback.

4. From where do you get the information that is displayed in The CAB?

We collect the information by going through the leading mainline newspapers every day. At the end of a fortnight, we revise the information before putting it into the newsletter.  The person responsible for collecting information is aware of the needs of different examinations (he has appeared in a few himself, with a little success), thus ensuring that you get relevant information and are not flooded with superfluous material.

5. Many of the items that make the headlines in most newspapers do not even get a mention in the newsletter. Why is this so?

This is because these items are not relevant for general awareness in competitive examinations. General awareness for these examinations generally encompasses subjects like appointments, awards, statistics and abbreviations. These exams will seldom (if ever) ask the candidate a question about a controversial or sensational subject. For instance, you are more likely to be asked about the name of the chairman of the Planning Commission than about Shah Rukh Khan’s new fim!

6. Why are items given in brief in The CAB?

We try to keep items as concise as possible in this newsletter. The effort is to provide information that can be easily committed to memory. We have seen that many times, candidates are flooded with details that are not really relevant from the point of view of examinations. It is our attempt to cut through all the superfluous material and give you the essentials. It might not make for interesting reading, but it will be more than useful.

7. What examinations will The CAB help me prepare for?

Any general awareness examination administered directly or indirectly by the government of India. This includes banking service examinations (Probationary officers and clerks), insurance officers examinations, central defence service examinations and  a host of others besides.

8. If I subscribe to The CAB, do I need to keep reading other general awareness material – magazines, books, etc.? Or will The CAB be sufficient in itself?

It would be foolish on our part to claim that The CAB alone will be enough to prepare you for any general awareness examination. The fact is that different examinations contain different questions. For instance, in the IAS examination, the General Awareness question paper is more likely to quiz the candidate on topics studied by him in school or university while a typical Bank PO exam will focus more on more recent happenings. Needless to say, it would be impossible for a single newsletter to cover all possible bases.

What we can do is assure you that the newsletter will keep you informed of the latest developments that are covered by the mainline newspapers and which can be placed in the category of general awareness for competitive examinations.

We would advise you to read other material as well. After all, one can never be too well prepared for these examinations.
